Lately I've been more interested in menswear then women's wear. I feel like women's fashion is somewhat predictable and I've always gravitated towards a more androgynous style. There are so many unexplored silhouettes, textures and drapes when it comes to menswear. The only scary thing is the tailoring which almost always has to be impeccable, down to every last stitch - not that women's wear can be less crafted- there is just a heaviness and timelessness about most menswear. For the past year or so, my favorite type of garment has been the button down shirt. So versatile, so clean and yet casual (in a early 90s type of way).

I stumbled upon this TMag article and editorial about thug style, sagging pants in particular. It goes to show how adaptable the classic button down really is and I'm loving the thug revival (though did it ever go away?)

One of my favorite skirts at the moment. A high waisted sheer cotton tie waist skirt that I am planning on selling in MishaMarket in a few different models (a pencil and dress version as well). I'm quite fond of ankle length skirts and dresses right now.

I know I have been neglecting my blog but I think I've reached the point that I just need a little break- I've been enjoying the Swedish summer after a really really bad (freezing) winter. I am feeling back up for it though so I'll be trying to take a few more photos and posting on a weekly basis.

i've been growing out my hair, trying to get it as simple, straight and symmetrical as possible. i haven't parted it down the middle since high school so it's taking a while to get used to it but I went to get it trimmed, to help it grow faster and stronger. i've also been thinking about bringing back the glasses.

last season i fell in love with the minimarket zipper wedge, which to this day is my most favorite, comfortable and snow friendly boot despite also being the tallest shoe in my collection. so I don't know why I was surprised when I saw their latest boots up for sale on Garde-Robe. Just when my paycheck landed in my bank account and my thirst for a new pair of shoes reached it's peak. I had to snatch these up quickly because last year I waited a while for the navy zip boots to be restocked. now the long and painful wait for the boots to actually arrive (the downside of pre-ordering).

i never thought i wanted this piece when i saw it on the ruway (something about the length on a long body just wasn't doing anything for me) until I saw it on kristine-barilli on stylelikeu. this is the one of those few times a garment looks 100% better on a shorter person. can't wait to experiment.

I've been super busy spending time with all my loved ones in California. Today I received a press release detailing an amazing collaboration with Gareth Pugh and SHow Studio in a series of events in the development of SHOWstudio SHOP. Gareth Pugh has set up a temporary work place in the studio space and is designing a one of a kind garment and the whole process is of course being shown live here. ´

This is such a great opportunity for viewers to get an inside look at his design process which seems to borderline on obsession- lots of plastic film and tape of various kinds is being used. A lot of the work is being done on the floor, something I am too familiar wit; i wonder if it gives him and his assistant back pains as much as it does me. It's nice to be able to follow every step, hear his thoughts out loud, it reminds me of my work process- its very much on the go, things happen in an illogical way although I think he's got his design flow down pretty well.

I also loved hearing the music mix in the background, so far I've heard, Tina Turner (what's love got to do with it) and Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) from Romeo & Juliet.

I watched during my lunch break and now I can't stop!

The H&M 2010 S/S photos have been released and I'm not as excited as I have been with precious collections. There are a few key pieces that really grabbed my attention & on top of the list are the leather overalls. I've been meaning to make myself a version ever since I saw them on the Proenza Schouler Spring 09 runway

The H&M version looks alright, but I like the leg of the PS ones much better, the H&M ones make the models legs look very bulky. I'm always surprised by the size of these H&M pieces, they tend to be made for the leggy Swede and not the short Indian that I am. I bet I'd swim in these leather overalls- more fly fishing less glamor I'd say.

The other look that I loved was the head to toe floral overload. I usually don't go this route and probably won't but I love the bag, what little of it I can see. It's very much what I've been doing with my bags lately, right down to the thick fisherman rope that I used in my exclusive for Geronimo bag.

Lastly, this jacket is probably the one item I will actually pick up when it hits the shop floor. I have a feeling I'll still be in love with capes by then. I noticed a lot of the Spring looks felt like they could be worn during the fall- I'm not sure about anyone else but I don't even want to THINK about wearing those leather overalls in the California summer heat...perhaps the designers had Swedish summers in mind?

I have not been shopping lately, both in an effort to save for xmas gifts and to save for bigger and better things but I strolled into Monki and picked up my first light blue denim purchase in a while. I've also been on the hunt for a wallet and while these Monki ones are a good place holder, they are almost impossible to use because of the placement and size of the zippers.

and I can't say enough about these shoes right now, I only hope they are not too small for me. the other western flats I bought are too big and will soon be sold on dustydressshop as well as some more items that are a result of my big closet clean out.

my gray boot dream comes to life in a pair of impeccable pair of boots by Danish brand Gardenia.
not only are they the perfect height, toughness and stability (I'll be able to walk in snow) but the color is more perfect then most gray boots I've found in the past month or so. the dirtiness and imperfection in color answers my quest for an un-new pair of new shoes (in high school i used to walk my new chuck taylors in dirt to make them dirtier)

EDIT: I just realized that even though Gardenia doesn't seem to have a website or online shop, I should post where I got these shoes for my lucky Swedish/Scandinavian readers. I do believe they sell Gardenia at several shops around Stockholm but I picked up my pair from Hallmans Sko at Birkagatan 14 (St. Eriksplan station) for 1600 kr. They had a bunch of different models there as well as some other great shoes from various brands.

this collection inspired me to track down some good bangles. the cream colored plastic ones running up the models arm really remind me of traditional bangles worn by Indian brides at weddings. the whole show actually did. it also inspires me to get in touch with some of my relatives in India and perhaps get some custom jewelry made.

Misha Draped Jacket Dress

Here is one of the many reasons I've almost stopped blogging in the past month or so. Geronimo is a new shop on what I think is one of the coolest streets in Stockholm, Bondegatan. Situated between Tjallamala and Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, the shop is the brainchild of Diego, who just like myself is a foreigner living in Sweden. Diego has a background in fashion and when he contacted me about stocking some of my garments in his then unopened shop, I couldn't refuse.

Since opening MishaMarket on etsy, I've had many requests from shops (mostly from Germany!) but I've had to turn them down due to the amount of work that goes with wholesale orders, etc. Since Geronimo is a new and local shop, I knew it was the perfect way for my brand to start growing.

So far I've made a few of my staple pieces, the panel leggings, draped jacket dress as well as some exclusives for the shop including a triangle trim panel skirt (photos later), a variation of my drawstring cage bag and a simple shirt dress. All black. We also have some more surprises on the way. For those of you that live in Stockholm, head to Geronimo at Bondegatan 46 to check out my selection as well as a lot more including some great organic pieces from Camilla Norrback as well as an array of other goodies!

270: the highlight of fashion week[s]

fashion week always comes and goes every season before anyone has a chance to really keep track of what's going on. I feel like it gets more and more diluted every year with an unbalanced focus on models, celebrities and fashion insiders rather then the clothes or designers themselves, not to mention the fact that one of the biggest sources for fashion week coverage, Style.com, seems to overlook some of the best shows- even if they are independent. anyway- enough of my ranting as no matter how bad things get, there are always really amazing things coming out of fashion every season. number one on my list is the McQueen show but as far as lustful collections from the big designers go, Givenchy takes the cake.

I instantly recognized that this jacket has a serious similarity to the one David Bowie wore quite often during the Ziggy Stardust years. it worked then, it works now.

these are my favorites- although I loved all of the printed pieces, even the ones with color. The shoes are on my fashion grocery list already, I can't wait for them to hit stores.

EDIT: right after I posted this I realized I must be missing part of my brain because I loved the Junya Watanabe and Ann Demeulemeester shows just as much as Givenchy- if not more. There's just something and easy about the Givenchy that I've been thinking about the past few days.

Just when I was both too busy to care about fashion and too bored to give anything a serious second look, ANREALAGE comes along and shatters everything I think about fashion at the moment. ANYTHING but dull, trendy and unthoughtful- I am impressed beyond words.

The 2009 A/W collection 「凹　凸」has had my head spinning for weeks. After reading a few interviews about the designer and the A/W collection, I've learned that the collection is aimed at looking at clothing with a 3 dimensional design process-exploring and forgoing the limitations of flat construction and pattern making to end up with an amazingly creative, artistic and well thought out collection that when taken out of the museum setting is even more beautiful. Every piece works both ways.

Luckily I can satisfy my thrift for the collection by visiting the exhibition they currently have at the Far East museum in Stockholm. I have about a billion photos of the collection but instead of posting them all I'll document my experience at the museum this weekend and post those, here's a preview:

I've been working non stop the last few days- on two very exciting projects coming up later this year- and in the process I've been giving a hard look into the branding of my collection. I've been meaning to show you guys the garment labels I had produced earlier this year [second photo] and the hang tags I received as a gift from my very good friend who has a killer printing connection. I've been slow on developing a full concept for my brand but am getting into full gear on that front in the next few weeks. This will include a logo re-work as I'm pretty happy with it now but it's something I scribbled out on my drawing tablet and really need a professional designer to get his hands on. After that, I'll get new hangtags [I've run out already!?] and business cards. I'm also entertaining thoughts of package design. Right now my packaging consists of black tissue paper wrapped with black & white string, all packaged in a black box which gets wrapped and written on and sent off [photo 1]. A lot of paper waste if you as me. I'd love to come up with a more environmentally friendly option that's still simple and basic.

I want to spend every day of winter in this H&M jacket. where is it? I've been searing for it and can't wait for it to be released. I might even buy two, one to alter and one to wear as it's normally perfect self. it reminds me of something my mom would have worn when I was about 10 and we first moved to the US. i bet there are a lot of my moms first collection of western clothes that I would just love. i can imagine her wearing this on top of a traditional Punjabi suit to create a clashing look. those were the days.

i'm not a huge Topshop fan, I seldomly (its not a word according to google but I'll use it) shop there but this collection must join the contents of my wardrobe. it's so rare that a mass marketed line hits such chords as this one does. I've been personally obsessed with eyelets for years now- even more then I can say for studs. i love this man. I can easily justify spending my entire paycheck on this come september- I love the knickers, sheer pants, navy embellished frock and of course the printed t-shirt dress.

Dusty Dress Shop has been in the works for quite a while now. I have two full wardrobes, two large trunks under my bed, a suitcase, numerous boxes and an attic all full of clothes I have collected over the years. I experienced my first big wardrobe edit before I moved to Stockholm but since then and because of the amazing shopping in Stockholm, I have accumulated even more stuff then before. I have many items in my wardrobe that still have tags on them- as of late I have been wearing more and more of my own DIY and MishaMarket garments so I am now deciding to sell off at least 50% of my wardrobe.

Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities I have been to- tiny streets are woven with canals that are filled with interesting houseboats (many people actually live in these full time) and tiny boats full of people enjoying their weekend on the water. Although Amsterdam can seem touristy (and it is, watch out for the omnipresent fraternity boys and loud college kids) even the most crowded neighborhoods are full of little surprises. A few things I absolutely adore about Amsterdam:

+the window displays (keep an eye out as I think in some way they've perfected the art),shoe stores- there are SO many shoe stores in Amsterdam, some bad, most worth looking into
+tiny tiny streets- when walking around, opt for the path less taken, you'll find some hidden treasures along the way and won't be surrounded by tourists
+the size of the city, it's so tiny you won't believe it so I recommend not taking public transportation, we didn't once use the train or bus but instead walked our entire trip.
+chain restaurants- i usually stick to cozy local places when I'm traveling and even in my own city but they have some great chains
+Sweetcake also called Spekkoek- this is the best cake I have ever had, it's a layered spice cake with no additional icings or overload of sugar. You can get it at most cafes and I've mentioned one below.

So here it is, long but necessary. Mostly I am writing this entry so I don't forget these magical places the next time I am there.

SHOPPING
1/ WONDER WOOD [images 1-4]
This is a great interior design/ furniture shop that we happened to walk into upon Johans request as he's a furniture junky. As the owner stated, his shop isn't full of furniture but art and upon inspection I would agree. He was very kind and informative and even pointed out some other design shops we should visit. He had a great eye for collecting the best of vintage and modern home furnishings and we both wanted to walk out with at least half of his merchandise. Even his work desk was meticulously organized and decorated. Since we couldn't take any large items back with us on the plane (even though we were tempted to get the fan in image 4 shipped to Stockholm) we did pick up a great set of 1950's Nagel candle holders

2/ ZIPPER [image 5]
This is a vintage store packed to the bring with old and new items. There is a lot to look at and it's packed in tight but they have a great selection of glasses and accessories too. I picked up two pairs of amazing sunglasses for about 10 Euros each. This shop has a location in the cutest neighborhood in Amsterdam and a must for any fashion loving shopper. The 9 parallel streets known as The Nine Streets. This was my favorite shopping area as it's less chain oriented and much less touristy (no H&M's here).

3/ DROOG [image 6]
This is a large design oriented store and gallery that was recommended to us by the owner of Wonder Wood. It reminded me of the DesignTorget stores or a well stocked modern art museum store. They collaborate with many artists to come up with quirky yet useful items for the home. Again, there were a lot of thing I wish I could have snapped up (illuminated garment hangers!) but I couldn't resist taking home this Oil & Vinager vessel . I love cooking and I love science just as much as I love fashion and these three thing come together in a genius way. It's super fun to use as well. There is also an amazing marble filled bench that's super fun to ride on

4/ EPISODE [image 7]
This is apparently a chain which exists in the Netherlands as well as UK but hands down the best selection of leather skirts and shorts I have ever seen. I like the way they deconstruct most of their selection, combining or modernizing vintage clothes, that reminded me of my first Etsy/retail venture back in college

5/ Cora Kemperman [image 8]
A dutch designer with a perplexing selection of garments, mainly solids and knits. The store display is what led me into the shop in the first place as I had never heard of the designer before. The display reminded me of something Comme des Garcons + Junya Watanabe footwear toned down would look like. The girls at the store had created a tonal display of their hottest looks which included wing-sleeved knit jackets, circular scarfs, drop crotch leggings and striped cashmere robe style jackets. The colors were navy, black and charcoal gray. When I stepped inside, I was quite surprised to find a lot of merchandise that made my cringe (pleated, laced scarfs) but there were hidden treasures that made me scream like a schoolgirl. I fell in love with the simple lightweight drop crotch leggings priced incredibly low at 30 Euros, and a circular draped knit jacket also priced very low at 50 Euros. What I became obsessed with though was a Navy and black cashmere jacket with a wrap belt similar to this one. I tried it on and it was too long but the whole time I kept thinking about buying it. In the end I walked away empty handed but now I'm kicking myself in the ass for not buying it and am considering calling the very friendly staff to see if they might be able to deliver the luxurious jacket to my Stockholm apartment. We'll see. The shoppers might make you raise your eyebrow (I was at least 20 years younger then every lady in this shop) but I soon realized that Amsterdam is quite full of stylish middle to late aged women who appreciate draped tonal dressing as much as I do and designers who are willing to cater only to that.

6/ NUMMER 9 [image 9- total coincident]: Prinsengracht 226 1016 HD
Unfortunately this store does not have a website but definitely a must see. It's a very tiny shop filled with mostly Swedish designer such as Whyred, Dagmar and many other interesting collections. I loved the way the girl who owned the shop dressed, she has an eye for unique combos and was very nice. I walked out with a pair of distressed leggings with sheer splotches throughout (photos later)

OTHER SPOTS- not pictured
1/ A. BOEKEN
This fabric shop brought tears to my eyes. I have never seen such an amazing or large selection of fabrics in my life. Maybe I've been fabric selection deprived in Stockholm but this shop was covered from floor to ceiling (quite literally) and on their website they boast having the largest selection of latex and synthetic leathers in all of Europe and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they did. I want to move to Amsterdam just to be close to this shop, I wouldn't have any design limitations if I could have these materials at my disposal. They also have a great selection of hardware and trims. I walked out with a great stretch netting, Nude Netting, leather ribbon and some other items that I can't wait to get started on. If you are at all interested in fashion design, this store is a MUST (take an extra duffle bag inside your luggage as you'll want to buy everything)

2/ MUSEUM OF HANDBAGS AND PURSES Need I say more? Sadly enough I can't give a good review as I totally missed out due to laziness.

3/ GOLDEN TEMPLE RESTAURANT
This is the only Indian restaurant I have ever been that serves my all time favorite dish, kitcheree which they call Dream of Aquarius (name change please). This is a classic Punjabi (the part of India I was born and raised) dish that I grew up on, although their version was not as good as mom's I would definitely eat here again.

4/CANAL BIKES
As touristy as it might seem, rent a canal bike, it's incredible fun and there is no better way to experience Amsterdam the through the canals. I liked this as opposed to the tourist boats (which we also went on) because you get to navigate your own tour and take your time.

5/ SOUP ENZO
Healthy, quick, cheap and hands down the best soup I have ever eaten

6/ B & B Lunchroom
Best sandwich shop where you can customize your sandwich any style. They have the amazing sweet cake mentioned above.
The lady who is part owner (her husband, the chef I assume is the other half) is very bitchy but the rest of the staff are really nice. This is in the middle of the busy touristy area but you'll see locals eating in here. It's worth the hassle.

252: my travel life comes to an end

this is what my life looks like while I'm traveling, everything messily sprawled out on a table in a hotel room. i am the type of person who unpacks everything- I just don't like living out of a suitcase and as our trip progressed, my collection of magazines, jewelry, shoes and especially clothes grew quite a lot (so much that we had to buy a whole new suitcase)

I've decided to pass along some of the wonderful places I visited both in Berlin and Amsterdam in the form of a mini Misha travel guide for each city coming in the next week. this will include some cool shops, interior- thrift and clothing shops as well as some restaurants because my absolute favorite traveling activity has to be discovering new places to eat.

This is my favorite thrifted dress of all time. one of my co-workers summed it up perfectly when she said "where did you get that dress, it's like the perfect dress, the kind I have been looking for!"

I couldn't agree more, the lightweight fabric, the tapered long sleeves, the lapels, perfectly sculpted shoulder pads, the gathered side and slightly rouched waist that gives it a perfect drape. It was made for a much taller person and I had to take it in at the sides and raise the waist. I wore this every other day in Amsterdam.

We spent the last leg of our vacation walking the canal lined streets of beautiful Amsterdam. The hot weather and hours of walking demanded extremely comfortable clothes. I decided to try to dress outside of my normal palette.

When this HM vest first came out in stores, I almost gasped in appreciation but for various reasons, the vest didn't translate so well onto my body but before we took off on vacation I went into H&M to get some basics and saw this size XL vest sitting on the clearance rack and decided to give this considerably oversized vest a second chance and magic! Has anyone else had a love/hate relationship with the same vest?

I am not a heavy jewelry wearer but here are two close encounters. The necklace is from somewhere in Stockholm- originally it had two strands of gold spikes as well but gold and I broke up a few years back so I removed those. I am thinking about getting another one to add spikes to a pair of boots...

The rings are my first and possible last attempt at wearing rings- I bought them, loved them and lost them- who knows where they are, most likely in the grass at Vondelpark in Amsterdam.

On a daily basis, I get multiple emails from people/shops/websites asking me to check out their projects and share with my readers. Being an independant designer who needs all the free press I can get, I love the change to help out a fellow designer but I promised myself when starting this blog that I wouldn't blindly promote anything or anyone unless I actually had a good reason to. I only post garments, brands, and shops that I genuinely like, which is why I was thrilled to get an email from the team at LIGHTVISION.

The new store supports up and coming designers with a focus on handmade garments and accessories without the usual craft-like homemade look. I was instantly drooling over the Liquid Leather Dress(number 2)- priced reasonably for a custom made garment that hugs the body so tightly. In addition I've picked my top 5 favorite items although I could have picked at least 15 more. Between the independent designer focus, handmade quality and low prices, this shop has a bright future (no pun intended!) I can't wait to see what's to come - I might have to satisfy my triangle obsession by ordering some of the printed items shown above. plus you can't go wrong with absolutely gorgeous real girls as models.

right before I travel i always begin a DIY- something about my need for new clothes for a new city.
i had walked past a cheapo fabric store that was having a huge sale and this yellow mustardy tribal inspired fabric caught my eye. i usually don't wear prints or multi-colored fabrics but i had this jacket in mind.

its draped and has a lot of angles to create this balloon shape which works quite well for me. ive been wearing it non stop and these photos were taken in Berlin. ive had an amazing time there, great music, shopping, and food. I have photos of one of my favorite stores while I was there- taking photos of my purchase from there today and will post that later this week.

now we're sitting in Amsterdam for the last week of my vacation. I love this city, the apartments are breath taking as are the streets. i havn't had great luck shopping here but I don't really care.

I'm sure many of you have seen this as it's been making rounds on many blogs but when I saw it about a week ago, I knew i HAD to have that jacket, no questions, no hesitation, it has to be mine! Even if I could manage to find one on Ebay, I'm so poor at the moment (tons of trips to the fabric store and tons of trips past and future period.)So I went on a raid at two of my favorite fabric stores and walked out with this:

amazing black shiny fabric which is actually lined in a softer white fabric- though I will line my jacket still. I figure the shape of the original Balenciaga coat is so simple, it can't be too hard to figure out. I might incorporate a few extra detailed into my version, some extra darts, slits at the elbows, who knows.

i also grabbed this fabric, the kind that old ladies use on their tables to prevent spills from reaching the wood but I will be using it as appliqués on a dress I have in mind. I wanted a dress that would have the same shine as if it had clear sequins on it but without the sequins, we'll see how it goes. as of right now it smells like plastic but in small doses, i think it will be fine.

here it is, what i wore about 80% of the time I was in california. i found this jacket
at a salvation army in redding california for about 3 dollars. I made it slightly slimmer
and added a black exposed zipper and a black chord.

i can't wear these legging enough and i can't wait until fall/winter to wear them
fulltime. I've never made anything this seasonless. have any of you bought these?

this was the first time Johan used my new Nikon D40 and he loved it,
and as a result I have about a million photos of our short 5 minute walk
from the bar to the main street. i lived in these shorts in the paris 29
